Improving Critical Thinking, Reducing Student Stress

PROVOST'S LUNCH ON LEARNING
Integrative Inquiry:  Improving Critical Thinking, Reducing Student Stress
Marilee Bresciani,
   Administration, Rehabilitation, and Post-Secondary Education,
and The Interwork Institute

This presentation will focus on how faculty can embed research proven and freely available training techniques into their courses that significantly improve students’ attention (AR), emotion (ER), and cognitive regulation (CR).  Improvement of AR, ER, and CR can reduce stress and therefore increase resilience as well as critical thinking dispositions.  This session will provide you with the research behind these techniques and illustrate the simple training tools that are available for you to embed into your classroom.  Finally, the assessment tools used to evaluate increased AR, ER, CR, resilience, and critical thinking dispositions and decreased stress will also be introduced.

February 13, Thursday, Faculty-Staff Club
11:30-12:50, Presentation and complimentary lunch
1:00-1:50, Continued discussion of how to use these tools for learning
